Brief History
Five Stones Church started in Nov. 2003 when Pastor Rich Kao and his
family, after pastoring for 12 years in Minneapolis, MN sensed a call to
the West Coast to plant a new church. After weighing several key cities
(LA, San Fran, Seattle, San Diego), they decided to move to Vancouver
because of it’s incredible diversity, cosmopolitan mix, strong
connection to Asia and God’s leading. With wife Memie, and four kids
(Kimmie,16; Heidi, 14; Holly, 11; Matthew, 9), they made the move at the
end of July 2003.
In Dec. 2005, the growing group found a new
Sunday morning "home" in Douglas College (New Westminster) where the
church currently meets for its weekend services.
Our Vision & Mission
We exist to lead people to become devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
A Word About Our Name
Our church name comes from the classic story about David & Goliath in I Samuel 17. Armed with five smooth stones, David was able to secure a dramatic victory over the giant Goliath. The number five signifies grace & government - power that comes from God and his kingdom at work on earth. That's what 5 Stones Church is about - to glorify Him personally and corporately.
